HALFORD Manager Speaks Out On SOYOROCK Cancellation
September 30, 2002HALFORD frontman Rob Halford's longtime personal manager John Baxter has confirmed the reports of a cancellation of Korea's Soyorock (a.k.a. World Rock) festival (as reported here last week),which was scheduled for October 12-13 and was set to include appearances by HALFORD, DIO, GAMMA RAY and RAGE, among others.
"Quickly, I want to express our collective disappointment of the cancellation of the Seoul, South Korea festival," Baxter wrote via the group's official web site. "HALFORD were very much looking forward to meeting the Korean fans, and capturing one of its strongest sets on film.
"Even though most band's were notified by the organizers a few days ago that this event would not take place, because we were each invited guests of the organizers — the correct protocol was to allow the event organizers to emotionally re-group, and make the announcement to the fans and media on its terms.
"I ask each of you to work to understand the professional and social pressures the organizers of the Soyorock Festival have been forced to shoulder — while trying to 're-schedule' this great event. They made a miraculous attempt in re-grouping, so the event had a chance to take place.
"Without question, each of the bands scheduled to appear very much wanted to perform for the metalheads in Korea, and wanted to assist the organizers and financial backers in pulling off a successful event. We are saddened this event was not allowed to take place."
